What is gentrification?
What do you think about the issue of gentrification (middle/upper-middle class white folk who’ve transplanted themselves from faraway states in the Midwest to live the “urban” life and raise the urban rent) happening in Boyle Heights and East LA? Is it happening (as of Nov. 2008)?
Yes, it is happening. Whether it’s for the better, I think people have yet to see. But life for the average resident in the area is getting harder as cost of living goes up, low-income wages stay the same and full-time work to sustain even the simplest of living is hardly available.
